I recently read the paper Transcendent Leadership: Board Metrics for Profits, People, and Planet by Dr. John Gardiner, Professor of Leadership, Seattle University. Dr. Gardiner's paper was presented at the Annual Meeting of the International Leadership Association, Prague, Czech Republic on November 12, 2009.
Dr. Gardiner's article builds on his work of defining Transcendent Leadership and expands the definition to an organizational level through the definition of potential metrics for Transcendent Organizations, or organizations which focus on the Triple Bottom Line. With Dr. Gardiner's permission, the abstract and article are posted here:
Abstract:
Higher levels of trust and collaboration by board members are essential for future growth and development of global corporations. Transcendent leadership, with its triple bottom lines of profits, people, and planet, offers a new metaphor for considering shared board governance. Metrics for operationalizing transcendent leadership by board members in areas of profits, people, and planet are considered.Download Transcendent Leadership Board Metrics John Gardiner
